Dear Parents and Caregivers The annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Monday 28 July at Mingara Athletics Centre. A program of events will be available via School Bytes and on the website prior to the day. WHERE: Mingara Athletics Track WHEN: Monday 28 July 2025 TRAVEL: By bus TIME: 9:00am – 1:45pm COST: $17.00 per student, includes entry and bus fare OR $7.00 per student arriving and leaving venue with a parent If you are taking your child to and from the venue by car, the cost is $7.00 per student to cover entry fees. This is payable to the school by Friday 4 July. If your child takes the bus to the venue and you will be taking them home, you must still pay the full bus cost of $17.00. The children may wear colours representing their sporting house: Gilmore (yellow), Lawson (blue), Mackellar (green) or Paterson (red). Students are encouraged to dress up in their house colours in a fun and creative way e.g. coloured socks, tutus, angel wings etc. A school hat and appropriate footwear must be worn. Please apply sunscreen before leaving home. All children will be seated in house areas behind the fence. Parents who would like to be with their children will need to sit in that area also. Please do not encourage children to wander off to other areas, as this makes supervision and safety difficult to manage. Children need to be reminded not to cross the running track while races are being held. The canteen will be open at recess and lunch time for purchasing drinks and a variety of snacks. Be sure to send your child with a hat and a bottle of water and apply sunscreen. Please note: · If your child is 8 years old and in Year 2 and would like to compete in the Athletics Carnival, they must be actively participating in Little Athletics and demonstrating strong results. Please email their current results to the school for consideration. · if your child wishes to run in the 1500 metre event, they will need to be driven by a parent and arrive by 8:45am as this event will commence at 9:00am, prior to the school buses arriving · If your child participates in Little Athletics and would like to be considered for zone discus, please bring in your Little Athletics record card to Mr Mallarky for verification. If you are planning to take your child home from the venue, please indicate on the permission note. Students MUST have their name marked off the roll by their teacher before leaving the carnival. All students must return a signed permission note to school by Wednesday 2 July with your payment.

Book Week will be celebrated on Friday 22 August, with this year’s theme being “Book an Adventure.” Throughout the week, students will immerse themselves in the joy of reading and explore the works of Australian children’s authors and illustrators, along with showcasing our talented Year 6 authors. In the library, students will engage in a variety of activities including creating colourful displays, reading an array of books, participating in competitions, and sharing stories crafted by our Year 6 students for our younger learners. On Friday 22 August, we will host a day filled with fun activities, including: • Book Parade: Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. Start planning your costumes now. Ideas include Where’s Wally, The Indoor Cat, Charlie and Lola, Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web, Harry Potter, fairy princesses, witches, wolves, or monsters. We invite all parents to join us for this vibrant celebration! • Scholastic Book Fair: Throughout the week, students can browse a selection of books in the library and create wish lists. Purchases can be made on Friday 22 August. • Jollybops Performance: Students will enjoy an engaging show with two different performances: o K-2: Move & Groove with Energy o 3-6: The Big Chemistry Show • Assembly: A special assembly for K-2 and 3-6 will be held to present prizes for various competitions. Book Week is one of the highlights of the Woodport calendar, promising a delightful experience for all. More details will be shared early next term. We can’t wait to celebrate the magic of books together!
