About our school

Woodport Primary School’s mission is to be widely recognised for fostering a dynamic, energetic and progressive learning environment where learners are nurtured and inspired to engage productively in our community and their future world. Woodport PS has consistently shown an innovative, pioneering and forward-thinking approach to all aspects of school life. Our Robotics Team was recently awarded National Winners in the First LEGO League competition and proudly received the Global Innovation Award for the ‘Hab-a-Seat’ (an ingenious and inventive design to address the lack of seating in the community). We take a comprehensive and holistic approach to meet the physical, emotional, cognitive and creative needs of the whole child.

Our highly skilled and accomplished staff offer expertise and experience in a variety of areas ensuring that we are able to offer a myriad of programs to cater for the interests and needs of students, including robotics, debating, dance, sport, music and band among others. Our teaching staff nurture cooperative and collaborative relationships, supporting each other, which creates a strong cohesive team. Driven by the latest research, our applied and contextual learning is highly engaging and differentiated to meet the needs of students across a range of abilities.

Woodport PS is well-renowned for our strong community spirit and for providing a safe, caring and friendly environment in which students can thrive and reach their full potential. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning program includes regular Community Circles, Ernie Rewards Days and a whole school consistent approach to wellbeing. With high expectations for all students and a desire to build on their strengths, teachers, parents, staff and external organisations all work in partnership to develop and foster confident, happy learners who value kindness, compassion and generosity of spirit. This is our ‘Year of Gratitude’ and we are all grateful to be part of such an amazing school!

History

Woodport Public School was established in 1892.  The name derives from the main industry in this area, which was timber cutting and transportation.  Erina Creek was used to load the wood, much of which was then transported to Sydney.

Mr George Spalding was the first teacher and the enrolment 61 students.  As a Centenary project, the original building has since been restored to its former glory.

The school was known for many years as Erina West but as a result of representation made by the centenary committee, the Minister for School Education approved the name change back from Erina West to Woodport Public School.  Woodport Public School celebrated 125 years of Public Education in 2018.
