Cultural Activities
Aboriginal Education at Woodport Public School
At Woodport Public School, we are proud to be a place where Aboriginal cultures, histories, and languages are valued and celebrated. We work closely with students, families, and our broader community to build strong, respectful relationships and create learning experiences that honour and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We embed Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum, giving every child the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations Australians.
Celebrating Culture, Building Connections 🖤❤️💛
NAIDOC Week
Each year, we proudly celebrate NAIDOC Week with a range of vibrant and engaging activities. These events honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and achievements, while reflecting on the year’s NAIDOC theme.
Students participate in storytelling, art, music, dance and cultural workshops—building understanding, pride, and connection.
Cultural Groups
Our Cultural Groups give students the chance to explore identity, connect with community, and express themselves through song, dance, weaving, art, and storytelling. Sessions are led by staff and community members who share knowledge and help foster deep cultural understanding.
These groups build self-identity, strengthen community connections, and provide meaningful ways for students to learn about Country and culture .
Yarn Ups
We regularly host Yarn Ups—safe, respectful spaces where Aboriginal students and their families can share stories, experiences, and ideas with staff.
Yarn Ups help us listen deeply, build trust, and ensure our students’ voices are at the heart of what we do.
Tjudibaring Local AECG
Woodport PS works closely with the Tjudibaring Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG). This strong partnership enables combined school events such as cultural sport days, dance workshops, and the annual Tjudibaring AECG Awards Evening, where we proudly celebrate student achievements.

The Nanga Mai Awards recognise excellence in Aboriginal education across NSW public schools. Woodport PS proudly nominates students for categories including:

Walking Together
We are committed to walking alongside our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and community—celebrating culture, recognising achievement, and working together to build a strong, connected future.
