As Anzac Day occurred during the holidays, the school held a service on the last day of term. Our four school leaders, Oliver, Jordan, Jessie and Piper proudly led the children through the service. Our official guests from the Returned Services League of Australia Mr Peter Wylie and Mr Terry Saxby attended and spoke to the children about the importance of ANZAC Day to all Australians. The service commenced with the school band playing Abide with Me followed by the National Anthem. Harry proudly played the Last Post and finally the Stage 3 choir sang Lest We Forget. I was extremely impressed and proud of everyone who took part in the service for their respectful behaviour on such an important occasion.
On ANZAC Day many children and their parents woke early and met at Terrigal for the ANZAC Day march and service. Our children proudly wore their uniforms and marched behind service men and women. Ebony and Oliver laid a wreath on behalf of the school. The day is such an important part of being an Australian and I am sure all the children who attended gained a better understanding of the importance of ANZAC Day.
The occasion certainly was sombre and provided a vivid reminder of the sacrifices made on our behalf. Thank you to Ms Ridland and Mrs Minter and all the children and the parents who were able to get up so early and make their way to Terrigal.
