Last Friday, Miss Krechster and Miss Stott took the girls' and boys' soccer teams to Hylton Moore Oval to play their first round of the PSSA Knockout competition. There was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the students with both teams cheering each other on from the sidelines.
The girls were up first, playing against East Gosford Public School. With most of the girls having never played soccer before, they all gave it their best and fought hard right to the end. East Gosford managed to score two goals, but the girls did not let that get them down. Their determination and sense of teamwork was inspiring to watch. Player of the match went to Jessica L who held her position in defence and executed some amazing passes up the field.
The boys team were up next, playing against Chertsey Primary School. Both teams were fired up and ready to go at the first whistle. Chertsey were lucky to score a quick goal in the first half. The rainy and windy conditions did not deter the boys and the team continued to lift both their intensity and spirit, with Harry L scoring a pinnacle goal in the second half. The whistle blew for the end of the match. With the score 1-1. The game went into extra time. With amazing support from the sideline from the girl's team, the boy's tucked away two excellent goals from Ashton M and Jordan B/Cooper W (too close to call). With our hearts in our chest, the referee blew the final whistle and the team and fans erupted with elation.
The victory from the boys means they move into the next round of the competition, playing against Umina Beach Public School. Player of the match went to Harry L who kept control of the middle and set up some awesome passages of play.
All players were extremely helpful and encouraging, showed positive support towards each other, listened carefully and showed great respect to the other teams. Well done, you were all outstanding representatives for our school. Also, a big thank you to the parents who helped and supported both teams throughout the day.
