On Thursday 24 October the Year 5 and Year 6 students had a visit from Senior Constable Hall, Senior Constable Hall is the Police Youth Liaison officer from Gosford Police. He spoke about using the internet safely. He raised a number of important issues with the children which related to the safe use of the internet. These included:
- Each social media site and app has its own criteria for minimum age requirements. Most require users to be at least 13 years of age before they can register. On many occasions when children under the age of 13 are using social media they are unsure of the negative consequences which occur when sending messages
- Protecting your personal information when tagging others in photos as this may be used to identify and locate them
- Parents need to be aware of privacy settings so that their online activity can be supervised
- It is important for children and parents to discuss which all online activity
