The Woodport Robotics team is half-way through the competition and working towards completing their innovative research project and coding the LEGO missions. This year’s theme is City Shapers: Building a Better World!
The research team have been busy conducting surveys, collecting information and talking to experts about local environmental and social problems. Currently, the students are developing an innovative solution called the Hab-A-Seat. This structure fosters an urban ecosystem which can be modified to suit a variety of public spaces. It will also help to minimise urban heat islands and improve air quality.
Recently, the team were invited to present their solution to Mr Chris McLean, Principal Strategic Planner for the Central Coast Council. The students ‘pitched’ their solution with confidence and effective communication skills. Mr McLean was very impressed with their presentation that he is going to arrange for us to meet with councillors, maybe even the Mayor. Next Term, the students will be presenting their solution to the marketing team from Erina Fair, in the hope we can find a way to build the students’ design.
Young people are preparing for a very different world from the one we know. In the 21st Century students will need to be innovators, entrepreneurs, lifelong learners and responsible citizens. This competition provides a platform for students to learn, develop and apply 21st Century skills such as critical, creative thinking, communication, collaboration and digital technology.
We are incredibly proud of the students’ work ethic and commitment to the competition.
Mentors,
