Last year, the Woodport Robotics team was triumphant at the national FIRST LEGO League competition and were awarded National Winners in the ‘Best Research Project’ category and received the Global Innovation Award for the ‘Hab-A-Seat’. The ‘Hab-a-Seat’ was their innovation solution to addressing a lack of seating in the community and improving thermal comfort.
The team shared their innovative project with various experts to help them continually make improvements to the design. Throughout the process they presented their design concept to the Principal Strategic Planner for the Central Coast Council and the Marketing team from Lend Lease Erina Fair. But the pinnacle moment of this learning journey was presenting to the Google IT staff at their headquarters in Sydney.
As a result of their dedication and hard work they have been invited to submit their project to the international judges in order to progress to the semi-finals in Disney World, Orlando, Florida from 7-9 June 2020. Unfortunately, we will not be notified if we have been successful until mid-April, leaving only 6 weeks to prepare for the trip. As you can imagine, costs for us to compete on the world stage will be extensive so the team is preparing to fundraise in anticipation of progressing through to the semi-final.
If you have a business or know of a business that would like to support the team with sponsorship please contact me. I have included a guide for sponsorship below. In the event we are not successful any money raised will be used to improve the school’s STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) resources.
